A 135-Inch Laser Projection Experience in Morni Hills

By Deepak Saxena – Founder, AV Consultants

Introduction: When Technology Meets Tranquility

Soundbar + UST Projector + Apple TV

The Perfect “Easy-to-Use” Luxury Cinema for Non-Tech-Savvy Users

Not everyone wants a complex AV receiver, multiple amplifiers, and a room full of speakers. For many homeowners—especially in luxury villas, holiday homes, or family spaces—the priority is simple:

👉 Press one button → Everything works perfectly

This is exactly where a system built around a UST projector + soundbar + Apple TV becomes the smartest solution.

The Core Components of Simplicity

  • Ultra Short Throw Projector like Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS800B
  • Premium Soundbar such as Klipsch Flexus 200 with wireless sub & surrounds
  • Streaming Hub: Apple TV 4K

Together, these create a clean, powerful, and extremely user-friendly cinema system—without the complications of traditional setups.

At the serene peaks of Morni Hills, AV Consultants recently completed a flagship project that serves as a benchmark for this new era. This wasn’t just an installation; it was an engineering challenge: How do you deliver a 135-inch cinematic experience in a room flooded with mountain light, without the clutter of traditional AV racks?

In this deep dive, we explore the science of Laser Projection (UST), the critical role of CLR Screen Technology, and why Acoustic Engineering is the “invisible upgrade” that makes or breaks a premium home cinema.

Part 1: The Vision – Redefining Minimalist Luxury

The Client’s Brief

The Mountain Peak Residence is a masterpiece of glass and stone. The owner, a connoisseur of fine living, wanted a theater that felt like an extension of the hills—open, airy, and effortless. The requirements were specific:

1. Massive Scale: A screen size that rivals commercial theaters (130″+).

2. Zero Clutter: No thick bundles of wires, no towering speaker stacks.

3. Versatility: Performance that holds up during a bright Sunday brunch and a midnight movie marathon.

The Room Geometry

At 25 x 17 feet, the room offered ample depth but posed a challenge with its high ceilings and reflective surfaces. Traditional long-throw projectors were ruled out immediately—running cables across a finished premium ceiling was not an option, and the throw distance would have required a massive, heat-generating unit hanging over the seating area.

Part 2: The Visual Engine – Epson LS800B Laser TV

Why Ultra-Short Throw (UST) is the Future

For this project, we selected the Epson EpiqVision Ultra LS800B. In the world of premium AV, the LS800B is a disruptor. Unlike traditional projectors that sit 15 feet away, this unit sits just inches from the wall.

Technical Breakdown: 4000 Lumens of Precision

LS800 projector from Epson

• Brightness: Most home projectors struggle at 2000 lumens. The LS800B delivers a staggering 4000 lumens, making it one of the few systems capable of “daylight cinema.”

• The 4K PRO-UHD Edge: It uses advanced pixel-shifting technology and a 3LCD chip design. Unlike DLP projectors, it produces no “rainbow effect,” ensuring eye comfort during long viewing sessions.

• Laser Longevity: With a 20,000-hour light source life, the “lamp replacement” era is officially over.

Part 3: The Secret Weapon – Elite Screens CLR 5

A common mistake in DIY setups is using a standard white screen with a UST projector. In Morni Hills, that would have been a disaster.

The Science of Ceiling Light Rejection (CLR)

We paired the Epson with a 135-inch Elite Screens CLR 5. This isn’t just a piece of fabric; it’s an optical lens system.

ES 135 CLR Screen

• Lenticular Microstructure: The screen surface consists of tiny triangular ridges. They are designed to reflect light coming from below (the projector) toward the viewer, while absorbing light from above (the ceiling lights and windows).

• Contrast Enhancement: The CLR 5 improves black levels by up to 100x compared to a matte white screen. This is why the image in the photos looks like a giant OLED TV rather than a projection.

Part 4: Audio Engineering – The Klipsch Flexus Revolution

Many purists insist on a 9.2.4 floor-standing system. But in a minimalist mountain retreat, “less is more” provided it is powered by the right engineering.

Klipsch Flexus Core 200: Powered by Onkyo

We utilized the Klipsch Flexus Core 200, a 3.1.2 Dolby Atmos system.

• Horn-Loaded Clarity: Klipsch is famous for its tractrix horns. In this soundbar, they ensure that dialogue is “pinned” to the screen, even in a large 25-foot room.

• The Subwoofer Integration: We added the Flexus Sub to handle frequencies down to 20Hz, ensuring the “rumble” of the mountains was felt, not just heard.

• Wireless Surrounds: By using wireless rear channels, we maintained the aesthetic integrity of the room while achieving a full 360-degree soundstage.

Part 5: The “Invisible” Variable – Acoustic Treatment

The most expensive speakers in the world will sound mediocre in a room with bad acoustics.

The Engineered Acoustic Ceiling

For the Morni Hills project, we didn’t just paint the ceiling; we engineered it.

1. Reflection Control: Large rooms create “slap echo.” We used specialized acoustic panels that absorb mid-to-high frequencies.

2. Dialogue Intelligibility: By controlling the reverberation time (RT_{60}), we ensured that even whispered dialogue in a movie is crystal clear.

3. Low-Frequency Trapping: The ceiling design helps prevent “boomy” bass, keeping the low-end tight and punchy.

Part 6: Power Protection – APC Back-UPS BX1100C-IN

The APC BX1100C-IN (1100VA / 660W) provides:

1. 15 Minutes of Backup: Long enough to safely shut down the system and complete the cooling cycle.

2. AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation): Corrects low and high voltages without using the battery.

3. Surge Protection: Shields the sensitive A17 Pro chip in the Apple TV and the Onkyo amplifiers in the Klipsch soundbar.

Part 7. Apple TV for OTT Playback

The Smart Brain Behind a Luxury Cinema Experience

In a high-end home cinema, every component must perform flawlessly—but equally important is how effortlessly you access content. This is where the Apple TV 4K becomes the central intelligence of your entertainment ecosystem.

A Seamless OTT Experience

Modern viewers demand instant access to premium content from platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, and YouTube. Apple TV delivers this with unmatched fluidity.

Unlike conventional smart TV interfaces, Apple’s tvOS platform is optimized for speed, stability, and intuitive navigation. There are no lags, no clutter—just a refined, premium user experience that matches the caliber of a luxury cinema room.

Picture Quality That Matches High-End Projection

When paired with a high-performance projector like the Epson LS800B, Apple TV 4K ensures you get the most out of your display system:

  • 4K HDR Output (Dolby Vision + HDR10)
  • Superior color accuracy and tone mapping
  • High bitrate streaming for better clarity and depth

This results in a cinematic image that feels closer to a professional theater than typical home setups.

Dolby Atmos & Audio Precision

Audio is equally critical. Apple TV supports Dolby Atmos, enabling:

  • True 3D surround sound
  • Precise object-based audio placement
  • Full utilization of systems like Klipsch Flexus surround setups

For rooms treated with acoustic solutions, this ensures that every whisper, explosion, and musical note is reproduced with stunning realism.

Where This System Works Best

This configuration is ideal for:

  • Holiday homes (like hill properties in Morni)
  • Living rooms
  • Bedrooms
  • Clients who prefer ease over technical depth
  • Families with elders or kids
